Expected path is a sequence of Figma screens representing the ideal flow that you expect your users to take for a given prototype task and scenario. For example, you can test a newly designed checkout process for a website and monitor what paths users take to complete the task. Setting expected path(s) in your unmoderated study allows you to measure task success or fail rates. Task completion will be captured in three different ways:
Success Criteria
A task is considered a success either if participants reach the end screen, or follow the specified expected path depending on the prototype task success criteria setting.
- Direct success: is when a user follows the predefined expected path to complete a given task. You can set direct success path. Any other paths that participants take to reach the end goal will be captured as indirect success paths.
- Indirect success: is when a user completes a task by ending up in the desired end screen but through other paths that have not been defined in expected path.
- Incomplete: is when a user quits or determines the task is complete while being in the wrong end screen.
How to setup expected paths
Step 1. First, load the Figma prototype and setup the details.
Step 2. Once the Figma design is loaded, the preview on the right becomes interactive. You can click on each screen, which will add the selected frame to the path.
For example, selecting "Where" in the below will add the following frame to the Path 1.
The preview will show the next frame when "where" was clicked. You can set the ideal paths by clicking through the frame.
You can add as many screens in the expected path. To remove or reorganize the flow, you can click the red x button located at top right of each frame.
Step 3. You can also add more ideal/expected paths by selecting + Add new.
