How to Enable Study Recordings

When running an unmoderated study in Hubble, you have flexible options for how participant responses are captured. You can choose between full-study recordings, selective (mixed) recordings, or text-only responses, depending on the level of detail you need.

1. Full-Study Recording

Enable this option during the study setup to prompt participants to record their screen, audio, or video throughout the study.

Best for:
✔ Collecting rich, qualitative insights
✔ Open-ended tasks like usability testing, feedback on concepts, or verbal walkthroughs

Tip:
You can present questions as text prompts (e.g., “Tell us what you think of this screen”) and have participants respond verbally. This is a great way to hear participants think aloud as they interact with your product.

How to Setup Full-Study Recording 

Step 1. In the study builder, select Setting 

Step 2. Select Recording tab to toggle different recording options.

• This option lets you enable study wide recording. Enabling this would disable any task-level recording. Participants will be prompted with recording permissions at the beginning of the study. 

2. Task-Level Recording

This option allows you to record participant responses only for selected tasks, such as prototype tasks or desktop tasks, which require detailed interaction with a product or prototype. 

Best for:
✔ Balancing depth and speed
✔ Capturing key moments on video while avoiding data overload

This setup helps you focus on the most important moments while keeping the study easier to analyze and quicker to review.

2.1. Tasks like Prototype Task or Desktop Task 

You can specify recording options for these type of tasks that require participants to closely interact with a live website, desktop apps, or Figma prototypes.

2.2. Question > Video Response

There is also Video Response question type by specifying the Answer Type. Here, you can also enable whether you want to have participants just verbally respond to the question by toggling Voice only. 

• This type of question is useful when you want participants to verbally elaborate on a response rather than having them type in their response.
